Translation Of Books For DLZ Entertainment

Maria currently works at DLZ Entertainment and amongst many other duties she is responsible for the translation of books (English/Spanish). This is a very exciting project, for Maria has been working towards this point for quite some time.

Maria is currently in the process of creating a manuscript of her own original poems; in hopes of being published sometime! Maria has no deadline set for this project, thus, she will take her time nurturing it until the seed sows and blooms into a beautiful rose under the moonlight.

Maria served as a research assistant for Dr. Sonja Watson. Dr. Sonja Watson is conducting research on Panama for her book that will be published once her research is finished. Maria was responsible for transcribing and translating Panamanian songs from the artists "El General," "Kafu Banton," "Rude Girl/ La Atrevida," and "Los Rakas". This opportunity was not only a good way to improve her skills in translating but it was also enjoyable because Maria got to learn all about Panamanian slang and culture.
Stories To Our Children
Arlington Public Library

Maria served as an intern in the program "Stories To Our Children" from the Arlington Public Library. Here, Maria helped guide adults, many of them parents, through the writing process. Their book was published and all four interns (one not pictured) helped to organize a final celebration in order to congratulate the parent authors and give them their hardcopy of their own book. This program is essential in order to preserve the cultures from around the world and to help give parents a voice and give them a sense of empowerment. Maria believes in this program and was honored to be a part of it.
Poo - Pourri
Translation of English Website into Spanish

The company "Poo - Pourri" sells a product made out of herbal scents to prevent bad odors from invading restrooms when there is a bowel movement. In efforts to reach a broader audience Poo-Pourri underwent a translation of their website into Spanish, amongst other languages; Maria served as a translator. Maria enjoyed this experience because she got to learn how to translate fun material like reviews and very many idioms.

Pictured is Maria and her Sunday school class for the year of 2018. Every year a new class enters in the program in order to graduate and participate in their First Communion. Maria is the teacher that is responsible to impart the lessons in English and she completely enjoys teaching students despite having to spend time translating from (Spanish to English) what the pastor wants the teachers to teach that week.

Dr. Rueda - Acedo, imparts this opportunity as In-service learning for her class. At Proyecto Inmigrante the student is responsible for translating legal documents that are used for immigration cases. Maria holds this In-service learning opportunity close to her heart because she feels like she is really helping a community that is much in need.

Movers
Website translation from English to Spanish

The Jonny's Movers is a moving company that specialized in moving people's furniture and belongings within Texas. Their website was only in English and with a desire to reach a broader audience they enlisted translators to help translate their website. Maria was responsible for translating services and prices and this helped her learn about customer service and how to best suit them.

Originally Maria was just a volunteer for the reunion of many Lutheran churches in Texas and the Bishop of the Lutheran churches- John Brodosky. However, their interpreter failed to show up and Maria was responsible for Interpreting (English/ Spanish) for the Bishop and the pastors throughout the eight hour reunion. Later, Maria was also responsible for translating a formal letter, addressed to the Bishop, from Spanish to English.

During the fall of 2017 semester Dr. Gregorio - Cano gave the Interpreting class an opportunity to shadow professional medical interpreters at the "Children's Health Hospital in Dallas. This was a great opportunity not only to learn many interpreting strategies but also to learn about the intense ethics medical interpreting pertains to. Maria got to observe "code blues" as well as routine checkups and how the interpreting has to be exact in all instances.

Dr. Rueda - Acedo gave the Introduction to Translation class at UTA the opportunity to translate stories written by adults into English to then be published by the Arlington Public Library. This definitely gave Maria an experience in real world translation but also made her realize that there are many ways that one can help the community just through translation, plus Maria got her very own book (pictured)!
